Photographer’s Note
Public ferry arriving to Aswan in the morning. It's rush hour and everyone is in a hurry to go to their jobs in Aswan downtown. They live in the west margin of the Nile river, in the blue villages that I showed you in my previous posts. In spite of being packed with locals, the ferry has distint areas for men and women. You can see that most women are still sat in their area while the men at the right are looking impatiently for an opportunity to jump to the pier instead of waiting in the line.
No visitor to Aswan or Luxor can fail to notice the dozens of cruise boats moored along their Corniches and here you can see three of them parked side by side as giant floating buildings obstructing the view.

Ricardo,

My goodness! I wonder how many people drown in a year. The boat is dangerously full. Can you imagine the furore this would cause in Europe who likes to wipe our noses for us! ;D Excellent daily life shot with great learning potential.

Good post, Ric, showing the local side of life - as opposed
to the tourist one that most of TE members would do!
We can see here that due to calm water of Nile it IS
possible for those boats to carry a huge amount of people,
but god knows how would that work if they only
had some sort of 'health & safety' regulations, the way
we have here in the West.
And those cruise boats in the BG - if I remember corrrectly,
when they're moored like this (close to each other),
it's possible for passengers to cross from one boat to
another without wetting their feet!
;-D
Cheers,
Robi

Hi Ric
What a giant cruise ships for a river. The crowded ferry is a great capture, especially the lady walking the thin line.

The cruise boats and the half-empty public ferry make an interesting counter-point. Nice juxtaposition and impeccable timing, Ricardo. I also like the tight composition. Regards,

Hi Ric, so you travelled to the other side of Nile by this ferry? I would be afraid that it will sink. But I think the felukas are more pictuesque. Are they still there? I think I see one on the other side. Interesting observation of the life on Nile. These cruise boats are imposing. Have you made such a cruise?

This is a lovely, vivid slice of Egyptian , daily life, Ricardo. The angles are just right, one can feel the rocking of the boat. The sense of a moment caught in time, is great.I love the woman precariously walking the plank. You even have a cruise boat, a few sails and a bit of desert, just to give some relevant context. regards Kevin

hi Ricardo
The famous Nile!
I like the candid daily life scene of this ferry scene and showing how river transport is so important to the people in this region.
And the wooden plankwalk is such a typical thing even in Sarawak.
Good to see the vessels in the background.

Hello Ricardo,
I like the contrast between the water taxi and the large sightseeing boats behind!
And that gangway seems to require a steady foot, hehehe...
This is a fine documentary, showing a fine slice of daily life!

Hi Ricardo,
I will not be reassured on this boat taxi !!! Fortunately that water of the Nile is calm… I think that all that is not lawful !!! Moment nicely photographed, I like much the light and this felouque which sail in background which contrasts with these ships. Well seen Ricardo.
With all my friendships and a very good evening,

Hola Ricardo.
Scary shot with so many people on this small boat, interesting your note about the women still seated while the men are ready to disembark, as you know in our world the ladies first. very well captured. Excellent daily life shot. Good colors and great composition.
Well done.
Best wishes.

Ola Ric,Where are u ? Like your style, I have 2 greenies that I should give to you but you didn't upload any photo :)Anyway, really I wonder how many people and total weight of these people in this small boat.On the other hand, I said to myself that who cares , we're living and they're living , important thing is that both sides are happy. After seeing your and Izzet's beautiful photos of Aswan like this one, I decided to go to this place but at that time I'm sure that I don't prefer this boat :P
Enjoy your day and Merry Christmas to you& Ana:D

Ola Ricardo
Excellent contrast, big and small vessels, the ferry certainly looks rather overloaded but charges little - can everybody swim just in case? - while the big cruisers are rather empty and overpriced. That is daily life as it is. Well seen, framed and executed. Congrats!
Best regards
Urs
