Photographer’s Note
The two temples at Abu Simbel were built by the long- reigning pharaoh Ramses II. The most famous sight of Abu Simbel would be the four giant Colossi of Ramses II himself sitting on thrones. (It would seem that Abu Simbel was yet another monument for Ramses II to show off his power and importance). This is relief on the side of the colossal throne flanking the entrance to the Sun Temple of Ramses II, depicting a row of captives.
