[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Several years ago I was driving in Egypt towing a trailor that got hit from behind by an old Mercedes taxi. The main shaft of the trailor buckled, but local help was at hand.

Just a few minutes down the road was a little workshop, ran by kids who knew their stuff. Within 15 minutes the buckled part of the shaft had been chopped off and welded back together again.

What was most amazing was that the oldest guy who you can see in the picture was probably no more than 15. In the UK I doubt anyone would even let a 15 year old near a welding machine!

Casper: powerful reportage - and perfectly presented with PP work. Full green for this one. I like the saturation and vibrancy of the re-post. regards, c

Hi Casper, this is good, really good. The sharpness is great and I like how you've captured the sparks and smoke from the spot welder. You're right about the comparison to the UK - in other places they just get on with it.
cheers, have a great weekend
Leon

Hello Casper,
interesting image with great focus and atmosphere. I like the smoke and lights.
Well done.
Best regards
Romana

Very strong image Casper - and a good story to go with it. The exposure is really good considering the flare from the arc. Colours nice and natural too. Especially like the hint of the figure on the left in the flip-flops, exactly the sort of footware you need in a workshop!

All the best, Roberto

Casper, after reading your comment about one of my photos I visited your page. The scene in this photo is repeated in many workshops in the Dominican Republic as the people repair old and damaged equipment that probably would be replaced in your country or mine. And apparently age, whether young or old, is not a barrier or prerequisite in Egypt any more than in the DR.

One suggestion re the photo. Cropping out the partial body on the left side would have removed a possible distraction for some viewers.

Regards, Ken

I had a hard time deciding which of the two shots I like best. But I chose this one and the detail and texture of the shot is superb. The veins in his arm...the scars, the burnt black bits on his hands...the holes in his shirt. So harsh and sad. So little protection. Definitely a good reportage shot. I like the added person on the left, because we see the kind of footware that is being worn. Kind Rgds, Leilani
