Photographer's Note

This is Cairo. Actually it is Giza, the city where the famous pyramids are situated. Since 2008 more people live in cities than in rural areas. The result of the migration: slums, poverty and inhuman living conditions. Kibera in Nairobi or the growing slums in India are good examples. If you think that the pyramids of Giza are to be found in the middle of the desert you could not be more wrong. This shot was taken from 15m north of Cheops, of the pyramids. Cairo and its metropolitan regions have the most densely populated area in the arabic world. 18 million people live here and the city is growing incredibly fast... Personally I do not see a bright future for centralised countries if there is no planning for decentralization. Tomorrow I will show you a picture of Kibera, one of the biggest informal settlements in Africa.
