Photographer's Note

I have called this contribution Cairo Collection, because I will offer you three photos for the price of one. Two will be shown as workshops.

This particular photo was taken just below the Citadel of Cairo, mainly built in the 12th century by the famous ruler Saladin (Salah al-Din) to protect the city from the Christian crusaders. Inside the walls you can see parts of the 19th century Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha, also known as the Alabaster Mosque.

The trucks are not quite as old, but I think they looked rather ancient even in 1983, when these pictures were taken. The carrots sold in the simple stall were guaranteed fresh.

I invite you to have a look at the workshop pictures as well. All photos were scanned from Kodachrome slides.
