This was captured in the "City of the Dead" in Cairo. The city is comprised of small roofless dwellings where the dead are buried in a family house. Some of the dwellings are small mosques owned by wealthy families. This is outside one such mosque. I was taken by the ever present dust hanging in the air with light shining through.

Nice moody shot, I like the presence of the man and bicycle. splendid mysterious atmosphere. When I was in Cairo some years ago, I left the group and alone explored some wonderful places away from the tourists route. But I was afraid to go there. I like this photo very much.

luce calda ed atmosfera magica, due elementi molto piacevoli.
Il tutto condito con l'uomo e la bicicletta, che aumentano la sensazione di enigma dell'insieme.
Una bella composizione.

CLODO (31685) 2012-07-03 1:19
I like this sun beam which irridiates the picture, lighting the walls and trees, while a man in djellaba is waiting for praying.
Sharpness could have been increased.
romanaa (7982) 2012-07-03 1:33
what a beautiful light in this shot I thought first, but next to the light there is much more to see. Excellent composition of the rather shabby yet picturesque place. The man standing still adds much to the atmosphere.

A very special composition, wonderful light, marvelous presentation.

The light and shade, the half hidden man and the lone bicycle come together really well here and you have captured an image full of mystery. Well done Giovanni Lovely work. Warm regards Rosemary

With this shot...I feel the presence of the living and the spirit lingering in the dusty air dissapearing as the light shines through the roofless dwellings wall.
The man adds a mystery and sinister to it.
Very well seen. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Giovanni! This would have to be the best shot I've seen . It's so beautiful, certainly one of your best as painting and dream. The colours, the smooth effect on the BG and rocks are all wonderful and really demonstrate your skill as a photographer and in post-processing. Congratulations.

I like your pov, shooting from the inside out. The ray of sunlight is very symbolic and I'm glad you included the person for sense of proportion. Good dof with nice details. Well done, tfs.

Simply stunning, the way you have captured the gorgeous light and composed the image are spot on. A rather special light it is with the lovely sunlit walls standing against the surrounding darker shades and sunbeams radiating down with good use of the tree as a natural frame. The rim of light picks the mystery him out so well and what a wonderful golden tones. A great time you must of had. Awesome capture.

J'aime beaucoup la construction de cette image et surtout la gestion de la lumière à contre jour. Le personnage joue un rôle très important. On dirait un film.
sevy (15367) 2012-12-05 1:18
Really you captured a great mood on this shot with this so particular lightning.
This for me is really a photography, sharing more than what is shown (the subject).
An original travel shot.
Angshu (56462) 2012-12-06 20:37
This is a fine picture...especially because of how you used the light wonderfully. The mood is excellent
notrap (5961) 2012-12-09 2:53
exceptional light, which gives a mysterious mood to the picture. Good composition, and I love the included bicycle, it connects the world of the dead ones with every day life.
josepmarin (57881) 2012-12-11 5:31
it is an impressive cross-light, perfectly controlled, with which you have created a serene and nice image, with a few beautiful colors.
The man who appears on the corner of the mosque provides a vital touch and is a good reference in the ensemble.
A splendid composition.
lpi (4857) 2012-12-11 22:41

J'aime ce genre de cliché!

I can see why this photo of yours is a popular one for you :)
as you say, the misty dusty air provides a unique atmosphere.
the addition of the bike is really cool!
mjw364 (7516) 2013-02-03 11:59
Nice shot - I like the way the scene is structured with the path leading the eye in. The man, the bike and the tree important elements of composition here but what makes the shot of course is the wonderful light which creates the atmosphere in contrast to the shaded areas.
jcpix (13804) 2013-02-07 17:50
This is quite an impressive shot, and well deserving of all the positive comments. It goes without saying that the lighting sets the mood, and the golden tone is warm and peaceful. Smart composition, the vertical format really allows for the flow of light to stretch the frame. The man, of course, adds the human element...but it's the bike that really catches my eye. A great capture and presentation of a "world gone by." Thanks for sharing.
siudzi (34131) 2013-07-11 9:34
