Photographer’s Note

back in the old peaceful days in Ivory coast, a street shot on a week end morning of this lady street vendor. her position and the bars background made this image very powerful for me. hope you 'll feel the same. her way to sit is so typical of africa!

hi Eric, it is a nice picture, those steel bars behind the woman - very strong accent... i like the pose of the woman and her look. i hope the real picture is better quality than the one here - it is too soft and not sharp. and the frame is violet.. anyway, the picture itself is good.

Yes, Eric, it is a powerful shot. The steel bars convey that message very well but more than that, the way the light struck her also makes it powerful. Eric, you have an eye for interesting subjects. I wonder how it would be like if you, Claude, Maciek and I travel together to shoot people and culture. I think i would take a cue from you in spotting interesting subjects.

BTW, about my post today, I consider it very complex because I had almost the whole community watching me and the girl.

Something came up today... a student (who has a top ranking military of Cambodia as her father) asked me if I am still willing to go to Cambodia with her (and some other students). Of course you know what my answer was.:)

The vertical bars cirtainly add a very strong graphic element to the shot Eric and sort of represent her as an "outsider".
Nice direct contact with the viewer as usual keeps me engaged in the shot.
Well done.

Everything about this photo is powerful Eric. Something about the dark and the shadows, which just as much as light, could promote what's in it. And not only how she sit, but what she sits on, as well as some of the detached bars. Very Africa.
