What’s 4 Dinner?

People rarely ask that question in Congo or many other African countries. Fufu is often for dinner...and lunch..and breakfast. This woman is stirring her fufu for her family and to sell. This comes after a long process of pounding and boiling the cassava base.

Fufu is a bit like mashed-potatoes, but eaten at least once a day, sometimes several times…EVERY day. To eat it, you tear off a piece, shape it into a ball, indent it with your thumb, and then use the indented fufu ball to scoop up some sauce. Voila – Congolese Cuisine.

Other parts of Africa use other tubers and grains instead of cassava – normally yams, plantains, and maize - to make their fufu-like staples.

NOTE: I had to shoot down due to the number of people (the feet!) crowding around wanting to get into the shot .

Critiques [Translate]

Interesting shot and note, good to include the feet of other people standing around. The PoV, looking down, gives a separation from the viewer, I think better to get lower.

Nice catch with very good expression, but there are some things to improve (I think).

1. There is a lack of sharpness on the girls' eyes.
2. I think you should go little bit down with the camera to get lower angle of shooting.
3. There seems to be very interesting movements behinds, maybe you should have wider composition.

I always say, African ( and Caribbean as well ) cuisine is a hungry man cuisine - those things can be really appreciated if you are really hungry - or have poor man's spice as Jamaicans - after smoking good herb everything tastes good. Points for documentary value, photo is quite average
