Photographer’s Note

Nearly my last photo from Cape Verde.
Here you can see Mindelo ,the capital of Sao Vicente.
Mindelo has about 70.000 inhabitants ans is behind Praia the second biggest town of this archipelage.

The town is surrounded by mountains. A tan-colored deforested mountain lies to the east, and the smaller Vigia mountain defines the west edge of the town. To the south lies a range of brown deforested mountains Monte Cara, and the Morro Branco peak lies to the northwest. The town is crossed by a river named Ribeira Julião.

Mindelo's deep-water port, Porto Grande, is connected to Mindelo Bay, an underwater volcanic crater, and is used for cruise ships and other commercial traffic. The Ilhéu dos Pássaros, an islet at the entry of the Porto Grande, is 82 m above sea level and has a lighthouse. There is a ferry boat named Mar d'Canal that goes from Mindelo to Santo Antão and back twice a day, carrying up to 450 passengers and about a hundred cars and trucks.

I am not that familiar with the history of Cape Verde ... but Mindelo sounds Dutch .
Is this name of the islands capital an tribute to the war we have ever had with the Potuguese in the past? .... interesting

Hallo Leo,
Nice, bright colours. It was at low tide (I prefer the view of this bay at high tide).
The Ribeira de Julião can be unnoticed. It becomes a ribeira ("small river") only when it rains, what some years doesn't happen in this very dry island.

Hallo Andreas,
your composition is very elegant, it has a perfect illumination and colors that I like much.
The arc that forms the beach, that it is to us introducing in the image the houses and mountains of background, he is very graphical and it gives the great geometry to the set.
Very good resistance between the tones of the beach and the blue ones of the sea and the sky.

Bonjour Andreas,
Ne connaissant pas le Cap Vert, j'ai effectué des recherches sur la toile du web et parcouru la note avec beaucoup d'intérêt.
Je pense qu'il est nécessaire de posséder deux éléments : la photo et la note d'accompagnement qui permettent de mieux comprendre les différents endroits du monde.
Une très bonne photo.

The mix of colours here is very attractive. The stripe of green grass in front of the sea is something unusual at my eyes. I like the line formed by the shore leading us to the village.

The colors are wonderful, and I like a lot the simple POV. Mindelo looks a pretty city as you show to us.
