Photographer’s Note

This is the old pier of Mindelo on Sao Vicente island.
I stayed at this place only a few seconds because here it smells disgusting.This place is now used as a public toilet by many people.

In my workshop photo you can see the pier from above,taken from a small hill.

There was a coal station in Mindelo in times of steam navigation by the British. Mindelo is a cosmopolitan city. At the shipping routes of Europe, South Africa, India, Australia and Africa and South America, Randall coal company was established. In the beginning of 1875, the firm named Cory Brothers plummeted coal prices which increased the number of ships to 669 per year in 1879. When more ports were built in Dakar, Senegal and in the Canary Islands, the number of ships declined but increased to serve about 2,000 ships per year in the 20th century. In 1952, the coal camps were eliminated as boats switched to diesel.

In 1885, Mindelo was the switching station for the first Trans-Atlantic telegraph cable. In 1912, Mindelo became an important cable station in the world.

Mindelo became the cultural capital of the Portuguese-speaking country/state along with the Lusophone capital in 2003. Mindelo is also considered as the cultural capital of Cape Verde.

The remains of the pier have provided you with a great foreground, and it's lines draw the eye deeper into the scene.
You took this in good light, and I like how the colours are not too overpowering.

Your nice photo of the Cais Bedje, with Porto Grande Bay and Monte Cara in background, is going to be a historical document. In fact, this area and the old piers is being renovated (and the smell removed also :-), as they are going to build a pleasure boats marina. I hope the new construction won't be "too much" and won't destroy the ambiance of the Avenida Marginal (destroying the smell is OK ;-)
You were lucky to get those nice clouds.

Besides hello Andréas, very good point of view which shows a pretty juxtaposition of these foundations to the form arched, I like much the mineral mixture with these always gracious boats in similar decorations, one feels a great softness with very beautiful colours and a super lighting, our glance relates far to this splendid landscape, the sky is very well seized with these pretty clouds which seem to form a procession, sincerely

Very attractive composition here with the old pier standing in the foreground. Good depth thanks to the hill in the background. The boats scattered in the bay add interest to the image.

wie gut, dass man hier nicht riechen kann. Aber mit den Gerüchen ist es so eine Sache, man ist immer wieder erstaunt, dass die Einheimischen es ohne Kommentar durchleben.
Es sieht gar nicht danach aus, als wäre es zum Klo verkommen. Die alten Gemäuer haben doch ihren Charme. Schöner Himmel,

The reamins of the pier makes such an interesting almost geological formation. It gave you a great compsotion for this very soft picture. I like all the little touches of colours here and there dues to the boats and the the sea weed. very nice picture.

A fine sunny clear sharp view well framed with the remains of the old peer in front, maybe t atiny too much NI only on front loosing a slight texturing in the sand but it is hard to remark and maybe better to present it like this, an excellent shot with fine details on the ships towards a misty horizont.

Beautifull clouds here and a small mountain or rock in the background. The small boats provide a touch of life in the pciture to balance the effect of the ruined pier, for which you have chosen an original diagonal point of view. Very good sharpness and colors.

Excellent graphism you got in that photo with what remains from the pier. The boats spread thru the scenery are very nice with their colours and the mount behind completes the scenery, just like it is watching what is gong on downstairs. the sky and the white fluffy clouds are also very nice.
