Photographer's Note
This is the way down from the Cova do Paul, a volcanic crater on Santo Antao island, approximately 1400 m above sea level. This way leads into Ribeira do Paul, the most fertile land of Santo Antao and Cabo Verde. The serpentines in the beginning are not so steep, but directly where the clouds start, it becomes almost vertical, all built by man in tedious work.
At the beginning you are usually above cloud level, having a flora similar to switzerland (please check the previuos post from Ribeira do Paul), then, at cloud level, the flora looks mediterranean and finally, at around 800 m the flora will be tropical. Bananas, Mangos, Cafe, Imyam and of course sugar cane are only some of the things that grow there in abundance. After around 12 km, the way ends at sea level at Villa dos Pombas, not far from Ribeira Grande.

Hallo Franz,
was für ein atemberaubender Weg.. und das geht die ganze Zeit in Serpentinen so weiter runter?? wohl nichts für menschen mit Höhenangst und Schwindelanfällen..
tolle Komposition, klasse Bild..
viele Grüße Bernd..
PS: sollte Dich dein Weg nächsten September nach DÜW auf den Wurstmarkt führen, kannst ja vorher mal Bescheid geben..

Hello Franz,
THis one made me twist and shake my head to check whether this wasn't turned sideways! A terrific scene, a challenging path to walk on, well captured.
Into the mist...

Very unusual sight Franz. Not only a rare steep path, but leading right into clouds! Pleasant descriptive photo that shows well the place. It must have been a fun walk. Now I'll begin considering Cape Verde as a serious potential destination for a future trip! Claude.

Hi Franz, road that goes up almost vertically, at first I did a little difficult to realize, I thought the photo was wrong, that the POV was from the bottom, then I realized, way to go on foot, not quite on the back of some animal, good reportage, regards, valter

I feel vertigo again.
2 mal lief ich diesen Weg bergab.
my view in 2009.

Hallo Franz,
fantastic geometry of the path. It looks really amazing. Great POV to present it. The fog below makes it even more attractive.
Very well spotted, you have a great eye,

Hello Franz,
Absolutely dizzying. As others have noted, it's initially rather difficult to figure out what we're seeing in this photo, but when we do... wow! So interesting that one descends into the clouds. Fascinating photo, well seen.
Best regards, Steve

Bonsoir Franz
This way looks incredible. Once I saw this picture, I went directly to the note to read more about this awesome piece of work.
I like how you have composed your picture with the fog to add a bit of unknown.
Bravo

Hello,
Strong photo, I never saw a track like this one, even having already perfomed a lot of trekings.
The way, you composed the shots and placing the track going down to reach the clouds is well showing the particularity.
It is perhaps only missing a walker somewhere on the path to make the reader of the shot are being also there.
Yves.
