Photographer’s Note
-The arrival at Sal international airport.
-The start of my traveloque "Cape Verde".
-The first foto I post, taken with my new digital
Minolta Dynax 7 D.
After a 6 hour flight from Munich with this Boing 757 ,(TACV=Trans Aero Cabo Verde)I arrived on friday,14th of april at the isaland Sal.
Sal (Portuguese for "salt" -- from the mines at Pedra de Lume) is an island in the archipelago of Cape Verde, and the municipality of the same name. The island is around 30 km long by 12 km wide. It belongs to the northern group of islands, called Barlavento and is one of the three sandy, plane eastern islands (Sal, Boavista and Maio) of the archipelago, with beautiful white sandy beaches and hardly any elevation. Sal's highest elevation is Monte Grande, at 406 m. Another mountain is Serra Negra with an elevation no higher than 92 m. The island was discovered on December 3, 1460 and was named Llana until salt deposits were found. Sal is the oldest island in Cape Verde, formed 50 million years ago during the eruption of a volcano which is now inactive.
Sal's main town, Vila dos Espargos, is home to one of the nation's international airports and has around 8,000 inhabitants. Its population grew around salt collection and later shifted to fishing, but is now based on tourism (amounting to 50% of the archipelago's tourism) at the beach resort of Santa Maria.
Saline marshes are used especially in the Pedra Lume crater and one north of Santa Maria.

Hello Leo and welcome back!
Your first shot has impact due to the stark contrast between the blue and the black with of course the brilliant white of the plane dividing the two.
Best wishes

Andreas is back at TE, Welcome!
Gleich wieder mit einem tollen Foto, halb schwarz, halb blau mit einem Flugzeug und einem Minimum an Landschaft. Man darf gespannt sein, was kommt ...
Du weißt hoffentlich, welches Wetter wir hier während Deines Urlaubs hatten ...!? :-)
Schöne Grüße aus Siegen!

Wilkommen zu hause..!!!
Hope your trip was great and we looking forward to see some great shots from Cape Verde.
The start is impressive with the white plane against the clear blue sky and dark foreground.

Welcome back, Leo. A tantalising first shot in your travelogue - I'm eagerly awaiting more. Whilst planes aren't a main interest for me, I find much I like in this simplistic composition. The sharp delineation between the clear blue sky and the dark tarmac has an almost abstract quality (reminds me of one of those big two-tone paintings by Rothko). The white of the plane stands out as a good highlight and the fact that it's the national airline makes it an ideal title shot for your new series.
Exposure is excellent in probably quite contrasty conditions - you've obviously mastered your new camera very quickly.

Hi Andreas,
Welcome home again.
Pretty image of this very well defined airplane and that stands out perfectly in the beautiful blue sky.
Good lighting, the colors are very beautiful and are very well saturated, and the frame is very good also, with the a little off-center airplane and two small mountains in background.
Good principle of your return.

Josep

Hi Andreas,
Excellent shot with good contrasts. I like the empty space around compared to more busy airports. TACV sounds exotic!

Hallo Leo,
The contrast is super here. But there is some "pixel" noise on the sky.
Cheers,
Francisco
