Photographer’s Note
Here you can see what happens not only in Cape Verde with old colonial architecture.Nice old houses are replaced by modern architecture, sometimes with strange colors like here. This is the main road of Ponta do Sol leading to the harbour.
As you can see at the shadows it was about noon and only stupid tourists like me were on the street....
But earlier or later there are not many more people or even cars on the streets.
At the right row of houses, the grey one is also new, only the color is missing, maybe they paint it in pink......
My next post will be the view from about 100 meters further.

Ciao Andreas,

I really like the symmetrical juxtaposition of old and new. Very clever idea, and very nicely executed. I like how the road leads us down to the ocean, where it looks like there are a couple of people.

Hallo Andreas!
Danke nochmals!
Grüße aus dem kühlen Siegen!

I like the contrast between the old and new buildings here Andreas, and how the image appears to be divided almost exactly down the centre of the frame. The two palm trees at the end of the road reinforce this impression of separation between old and new.
I have to say I much prefer the old buildings; they have much more character than the new ones that look a bit as if they are constructed from lego.
Interesting photograph, and very well taken.
Cheers,
Ben

Hallo Andreas,
It is truth, your title describes the composition perfectly, old against new. A great perspective centers our glance between the facades of this street, old houses to the left, new houses to the right.
The colors of the houses are very good, and I like specially the palms, the sea with its waves and the sky in background.
It is a very good photo.

Josep

Hello Andreas,
Wow. Sorry but I had to comment first on the engaging lead-in road which brings viewer to the ocean. It's a shame when locals re-build using architectural styles not totally related to traditions and customs. Superb job. Best wishes.

Hi andreas,
I like the setting very much. The colors are intense and the geometry of this place is very good.
Did you go shoot this in the evening time? I think that the light would have been better than and also there would probably be a bit more life on the streets. I know that would be a different shot, but could be an interesting alternative to try on top of this.

I like the the way you composed the photo. Interesting perspective and very good colours. And the next picture form this interesting and exotic for me country.

Very well seen Andreas, beautiful sight on these two palmtrees. Left side is a bit underexposed, but you got splendid colours on the right side. Some other personal suggestions (hope you don't mind): correction of perspective and crop 50 px and the bottomline.

Very nice picture. Cabo Verde must be a very charming country. As a Portuguese, I met many people from Cabo Verde, and they are fantastic. I hope one day I can visit the islands. Your shot is very interesting the symmetrical composition turned out very good with those two palm trees in the background.

Hallo Leo
Even without the note, without words, your photo shows very well what you want to tell us. So, it's a very good photo.
I understand very well what you say and I agree that it's a pity the old houses are not restored (I posted already something about that, and maybe I'll post more).
In my humble opinion, the problem is not "modern architecture" and is not "strange colors". In due time, the modern will become old and the colors will be eventually appreciated. If it wasn't like that, our houses would be still caves or huts nowadays :-)
In my opinion, the main problems are:
1. The old houses are not restored, are abandoned and are destroyed.
2. Where the new houses are constructed. They may build wonderful and beautiful new houses. But they should be put in new areas. The problem is new houses in old historic centres.

Nice colourfull photo. I have been looking a bit on your photo's, they remind me a bit of bertolucci's photo, because they are so brind and colourfull.

Hi Andreas,
"As you can see at the shadows it was about noon and only stupid tourists like me were on the street....", ha ha ha.
I agree with you because the day I purchased my digicam, instead of resting indoors during SUN and rains, I am mostly outdoors.
I am afraid , the day I purchase SLR, I would raom like ghosts durings the nights too.
BTW
Impressed how the path leads the eye to the sea and the fresh colours making mockery of the fades tones.
Well Done,
Rajeev

Hello Leo
This composition is simple but very beautiful. We can see the contrast between the old & new buildings as is the main point of interest. But you have also taken the picture with beautiful symmetry & I cannot help but notice the two palm trees perfectly fitting in at the far end, with the sea as the backdrop. Well seen & superbly exceuted

Hi Andreas
Excellent capture with superb quality. The desolate streets add an errie feeling to the shot. Good use of the buildings to lead into the scene and nice bright colouring. I like the contrast between the new buildings to the right and the less well maintained ones to the left. Good shot.

Hi Andreas ,
This is a very lovely shot. Indeed you managed to show the contrast between the two houses and besides that i like how the sea appears suddenly at the end of the road. The houses are joyfully painted. Framinng is very becoming.
