Pico da Cruz Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is the view from nearly the top of Pico da Cruz ,with 1585 meters the second highest mountan of Santo Antao.The direction is south west.In the background you can see a flat/round mountan.It`s Tope de Coroa,the highest mountan:1982 meters.
The wind and clouds come allways from north ,thats the reason why south of the mountans is only lttle vegetation.
I was here twice,the first time,there was nothing to see,too many clouds.
This day I was lucky to see this nice cloud falling down and disappear.

In my workshop photo you can see my view 3 minutes before.
It was verry windy and in the clouds it was verry cold and wet.
Now you can understand why I post not many photos of the mountans.At most days there were clouds above about 700 meters.Good for walking,no trees,no shadow,but bad for nice photos.

I know what it's like to wait for clouds to disappear. At several places we wait, go away, come back, just to get THE shot.
This was worth the wait. The little band of cloud is so attractive as is the vegetation which contrasts well against the desolate landscape. Nicely polarized sky too.

Pretty place and photo. The colors are fantastic. Did you treek the mountain?

I saw the other photo with 3 min right? Did you took one between this time space, about 1 ou 2 min? I think it could give a intersting photo with the clouds only comming over the view, but not completly covering it.

The Clouds in the centre of the picture do make this special with their diagonal along the slope of the ridge & of course the beautiful blue sky. Your WS photo shows how fast the view changes in altitudes due to high wind. Excellent!

das ist mal wieder ein tolles photo aus der kategorie: "WOW!"
was für ein atemberaubender ausblick, leo! :-)
eine einmalige komposition mit alles wichtigen details:
ein bisschen meer, eine weite ebene, interessante berge mit
wenig oder keiner vegetation, tiefhängenden wolken und
einem großartigen blauen himmel.
auch gut zu sehen, was 3 minuten ausmachen können.

What a stunning photo with the sharp detail of the desolate mountain relieved with the green of the vegetation on the lee side of the mountain, the clouds clinging in the valley and the amzing clrity and detail of the sea and surf below. Amazing view you have captured here and what a difference in just 3 minutes. The deep blue sky, the earthern coloured mountains with the green trees looks really good with the clouds below.......so well composed - even with a glimpse of the sea.

Hi Leo - breathtaking view with the world spread below you, the different cloud layers and the various types of vegetation loook interesting, it is so rare to get such a clear look down to the sea from so high above, this reminds me of Tenerife without the resorts.
