[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note [French]
Kassena tribes live in concessions ("Sonron" in Kassen dialect) that consist of flat roof cabins where people with consanguinity bounds or alliance live together.

The concession is a real ground fortress, with a sole aim : to defend against potential enemies. Historical reasons explain it, for the "gurunsi" people had to fight against numerous invaders in the past.

This massive, but elegant architecture proved its efficiency. The kassena people succeeded in preserving its autonomy. The entrance is very low (approx. 50cm) with a semi-round shape. Inside, it is immediately followed by a small wall, made to protect the inhabitants from the intrusion of wild animals, as well as enemies.

To reach their adversaries, enemies had to penetrate the cabin squatting and putting their head forward inside the door. The kassena warrior, usually the head of the family, sat on a wooden mud bench, then just needed to behead his ennemy...

Still now, even though tribal wars are over, kassena architects have kept those features in their housing, at least for the "dinian" type cabin. Tomorrow i shall post some other types of cabin that can be found.

Salut Eric,
très belle photo de l'Afrique et de toutes ses merveilles. La décoration de ces habitations est superbe.

Certes pour les personnes d'un certain âge, ou qui ont des problèmes de dos, ce ne doit pas être facile d'entrer dans ces maisons, mais en ce qui concerne la "défense" effectivement il ne doit pas faire bon y glisser la tête si la garde est assurée! merci pour ta note, elle est très bien faite. et pour ta photo aussi, bien sur, toute monochrome, comme j'aime.

Bonjour Eric! Cette photo est tres interessante. Les couleurs beige et brunatre sont riches en tonalite et bien rendues. On peut voir aussi la texture sur la cabine qui, je suppose, doit etre tres solide pour pouvoir proteger les habitants. Le petit bonhomme donne un aspect sympathique a la composition. La note est tres instructive.

Salut Eric,
Ta note est très intéressante et cette photo la complète parfaitement. J'aime les teintes chaudes de la terre et les dessins sur les cases. Ca doit demander un temps fou de faire une telle déco! La présence du garçon donne un peu de vie à l'ensemble et permet également d'avoir une meilleure idée de l'échelle. On voit que la porte d'entrée n'est pas bien haute.

WOWWW, ca m'a touhours fascine ce type d'architecture. Je me rappelle etre alle voir un expo sur l'architecture au mali et y avoir passe une journee entiere (en gnl le mal au pied prend le dessus apres 3h).
Bien joue d'inclure le gamin ds la photo.
Les motifs sur la maison sont cools. Elles sont fabriquees en boue?
