Photographer's Note

The safari jeeps that are out and about looking for the big five (rhino, elephant, leopard, lion, buffalo) communicate amongst themselves even with rival operators in order to pass their sightings so that the tourists on safari can see these animals.

We heard that one jeep saw some lionesses that have made their kill. When we found them they were resting in the shade of some tall shrubs and we could just see the remains of a small antelope. Obviously that was just a snack and the lionesses were already on the lookout for more meat on the hoof.

As this one emerged from the shade she looked at us and for a moment I was back in time, to the era when our forefathers, mainly naked and unprotected, had to somehow avoid being the next meal. It must have been a highly charged and nervous existence before fire was tamed and weapons were made.
