This image is my contribution to the TE forum, which of late has become an unsavory place. In all the years that I have been a TE member (still classified as a junior, I might add) I have only participated in it a few times. It has always left a bitter taste in my mouth due to the discourteous behavior of some TE members who seem to enjoy nitpicking and insults. Such sensitivity towards oneself AND such insensitivity towards others!
Today I visited the Forum and lo and behold, more name calling, preening, beating the drum, referring to people derogatorily by their nationality...
So I needed something to soothe my mind and found this image which I give as a gift to you, especially to those "wounded" souls who are either sulking or sharpening their talons for another attack, usually at the moderators.
Getting back to the essence of the image- it was taken at Okavango where beauty and danger exist side by side. Close to these waterlilies lurked gruff and territorial hippos which have been known to upturn a mokoro(native canoe) and even kill a tourist or two.
The source of the Okavango Delta
Spurred by huge subtropical storms, the Cubango River rises in central Angola, flows through Namibia as the Kuvango River and finally enters Botswana as the Okavango River at Mohembo in the north. With it comes some 11 billion cubic metres of water each year which drains away through a maze of lagoons, channels and islands before disappearing into the Kalahari wastes of the south.
This is the Okavango Delta, some 15000 square kilometres of wetland with a special diversity of fauna and flora.

Beautiful picture of wonderful natural elements! Pretty suitable for the TE Forum you mentioned! I have just read some of it, but decided not to participate in any of the discussions! Once I had one picture removed, got real mad, erased my gallery and left! Then, I found out I loved the site and decided to be back and not bother too much about those TOS (and everything else)! I understand the feelings, but maybe we really take all of these things too seriously! I'm sorry for all the great photographers we all lost! I'm sorry for the decreasing activity of the site! I'm sad about all of this, but I'll stay as long as it exists, posting, making critiques, trying to help and learn! One sad thing I found out: we are all humans, with all our terrible faults and they're so clear, even here in a "should-be-a-friendly-place" site!
Let's hope and expect for the best...
Thanks for sharing this beauty with all of us - congrats!

I have my own thoughts and feelings about the last few days events, but i'll keep it to myself as I want to try to keep things in a positive light :)
TE is a great place to spend 'time' with our photo's and friends :)
wonderful lighting in your shot. the light on the underside of the flower is stunning! the water is so still, like ice. Did you hold a spotlight above the flower! haha.

Writing a critique after a long time to your photo.
As Neyvan said we do not need to take those things very seriously. Even yesterday only one of my pictures have been removed by moderators. But still what I like about TE is, I can learn a lot, about the world, what happens where and lots and lots of those.
And I would say its a nice gift really to all those.
This is a nice picture, Very nice colors and beautiful reflection the still water.
Please keep posting.

Thank you for this beautiful gift, I do not follow much the forum and I am not a hunter points, I don't have time, this is a really tender image, you managed perfectly the depth to enhance the subject, light and colors are fantastic and excellent detail, beautiful reflection clear as the reality...
BennyV (18949) 2012-11-06 0:13
Not my kind of picture, but I see where it comes from (cf. your note) and I must say the light underneath (!) the flower does make it an intriguing shot.
And I fully support your call to not take things too seriously and enjoy the good things in this site (and elsewhere).

Jako lepo! Možda bi ovakvoj fotografiji odgovaralo da nije ovako precizno fokusirana na cbet?

Hi Klaudio, very nice image. Colours, light, sharpness all good. Exposure good too, with none of the petals blown out. Cheers, Steve

Hello Klaudio ,
What a beauty ! This is allways a pleasure to see splendid pictures like this on TE (may be less than befor , I don't know...) , and to share with the others . As neyvan says , we must not be too serious , and are just here to have fun .
The framing and the sharpness are perfect , and the work on the DOF is excellent , here .

You have taken a great risk of having this photo removed by those monstruous moderators...
That was intended as a bitterly ironic joke, because I agree with your comments on those strange members who seem to regard TE as more important than life itself.
Regarding this photo anyway it's of great beauty with a remarkable light and clarity and excellent soft colours.
cornejo (44591) 2012-11-06 10:11

Hi Klaudio Dear
Registration is very beautiful and attractive and very good symmetry. Clarity and lighting was good.
macondo (19754) 2012-11-08 20:02
Yes, it's a supposedly dreaded flower shot, but the setting, light and proportions undeniably evoke a sense of the place where it was taken, and the informative note about the Okavango River seals it. A wonderful shot from your late lamented Minolta and frame that works well.

Wow! I take off my hat, Klaudio,
Impressive capture of the water flower. Excllent close up! Unfortunatelly, I don't know a situation on the TE Forum. I just don't have a time for some showdowns here.

This is totally beautiful and a great gift! I have to say I do not participate to TE forums I just do not have the time.
I love it where the flower stem touches the water. It's sharp smooth and beautiful. The flower is perfectly in focus and the dof is superb.
Thanks for sharing

This is truly a stunning image of the waterlily - It looks like you may have also captured a fishes head bobbing out of the water?
I love the softness of colours, the subject & the overall beauty & simplicity of this photo.
Joevic (100) 2012-11-14 5:56
This is a beauty. I like the focusing, composition and sharpness above all. The reflection on the water is excellent. Keep it up my friend.

"Sharpening talons..." I agree with all you had written, Klaudio. I try not to participate in the forum - just for most of the reasons you mentioned.
Lovely taken shot at the beautiful flower, great mirror effect, sharpnes and colors.
Have a nice week ahead,

A very interesting post photowise and notewise.
It is a pity indeed that some members use the forums just to get rid of their aggressiveness, although I think that has improved lately.
Probably, the moderators delete rude entries more often, and thus don't give room to the escalating of polemics.
There aren't so many entries in the forums nowadays, but there are some useful discussions carried out in friendly ways.
We are also considered to participate in forums when we have something interesting to answer to a critique written to one of our photos...
Coming to the essence of the photo, this was a very good choice to try and soothe the anger of some people. I love the way you presented this beautiful water-lily and its reflection..
Its petals seem to open to the beauty of the world.
When I presented my water-lily , I first thought it was a lotus, and I had interesting discussions about these two flowers with some members.
Thanks for sharing.
