Meeting, a photo from North-West, North

Botswana is known to have the highest elephant population in Africa, with the Chobe River supporting up to 50 000 in the dry season when the water in the hinterland had dried up. And the number of all elephants in Botswana is estimated to be 120 000. So, how I could not post the elephant photos?
While on a cruise on Chobe river we observed fascinating scene. On one side of the river stood a group of elephants. Then we saw the another group on the opposite site. At one moment this group started to cross the river. The babies were holding the tails of mothers with their trunks. At some moments they were quite under water. But as we can see on the main photo, they were warmly welcomed by the waiting group.

Hello Malgorzata,
It is great to see these beautiful, intelligent and very sociable animals, clearly able to communicate in a quite sophisticated way. The afternoon (or maybe early morning) light is warm and pleasant and has given the elephants a golden tinge. Surely this was a moment you will never forget.

Witaj Małgorzato,
piękna scena,chyba własnie z takimi widokami kojarzymy głównie Afrykę(chociaz oczywiscie jest tam duzo większa roznorodnosc przyrody i krajobrazów).Pewnie to zupełnie inne uczucie zobaczyc te słonie w ich naturalnym srodowisku,niczym nie skrepowane,niz w zoo.Znakomicie skadrowana scena.Do tego swiatło,które ociepla i dodaje uroku całej kompozycji.

You're so lucky to have been able to see these guys in person!
you simply can't beat a nature scene like this, and its so much better than viewing it in a zoo.

Hello Malgo - I think elephants are probably my favorite animals, they have to be one of the most 'family orientated' mammals one can watch in the wild. I can sit for hours just watching the way they interact and look out for each other. What a privilege it is to see them roaming freely and protected. Hats off to the countries in Africa that value their wild life. This is a lovely series and I can well imagine your excitement on watching them, it's always a great thrill. Perfect use of a zoom to capture these amazing creatures in a family moment. I like how you've used the elephants themselves to divide the frame, and the surrounding colors are nicely muted - very much what I think of when I think of southern Africa. Thanks for this one!

Oh yes, the elefants, aren't they magnicifent creatures! I could watch them for ours on end.
Very nicely presentation of a meeting between two herdes, it shows how high developed their social skills are. And the african light is just as amazing.

Since we do not have many Elephants around here, I enjoy looking on your photo, Malgo. Superior animals.
Those big one's look harmless from a distance, and good that they are kept like this, on far from human's reach.

Hi Malgo,

An interesting note and a lovely scene from Botswana of these elephants bathing.

I love how we can see the contrast between the wet and dry parts of their hides and we see them against their habitat of greenery but dry earth alongside the river.

A lovely "falmily" group (or two), well seen and well taken with lovely colours, perfect exposure and excellent clarity.
