When I found my forgotten photos from Okavango, I looks at them with pleasure, recalling marvelous time there. I will show more on Facebook.
We camped on the small island and in the morning we had a hiking with a guide in a smaller groups on neighboring island. It is amazing how the local people can use the plants there. Here was a small lake, the favorite place of Hippos. We haven't seen here any, maybe better, as they can be dangerous and fast. But we saw many hippos in water in the evening.
Big version on beta

what a beautiful wild and unspoilt landscape, fooled with the colors I always associate with Africa, terracotta earth, mild green and sunny blue sky. I know of this place because of nature documentaries but this is the first I have seen here on trekearth, thanks for sharing

Good morning Malgo,
The dry and yellow weed, with the river just behind, looks like a seren and calm place. However, this is Africa and mentioned Hipo's, one of the most dangerous animal in such places, so the view is deceiving.
Anyway, made a fairly good photo about this location, well allocated pic. space.
Enjoy your weekend,

The colors of Africa...aren't they beautiful?
Have a great weekend.

Your note mentions a "mall lake,"...but I don't see any signs of a shopping center in this picture?? :)
Amazing to think of what can be utilized from landscape such as this, both by nature and man. As Noel pointed out, the colors and somewhat barren ground is an association for me as well with Africa. I know there are numerous and varied regions, but this type of scenery is the first that comes to mind.
Too bad you didn't run across any hippo's, that would be very exciting to see. Relatively plain and simple, but this is a good depiction of what one might be expected to view on a grand scale...very "earthy' indeed. Have a great evening. Take care.

You've written an interesting note and presented a very fine photogarph too. I can fully understand how you love to look back at these wonderful photographs - they must remind you of the many and varied places you have visited in our wonderful World!
I think I would be a bit wary of camping here if there were hippos about - were you just in simple tents and did you have people stay awake at night to "watch"?
Your photograph is amazing. That landscape just looks as though is goes on and on for ever - not just a mile or two, but hundreds of miles, probably.
The colours are delightful, lovely warm yellows and ochres, with some greenery no doubt on account of the presence of the lake here. Lovely light, perfect exposure and excellent details and sharpness.

Gorgeous african landscape, pure and unspoiled. Love the rich golden colors of the grassland and the warm light. And yes, hippos can be very dangerous. Did you know that they cause more deadly accidents that lions or crocs?
have a great weekend

how could you lose these photos if they were taken only 1.5 years ago :)
well, at least you found them again!
and yes, you DO NOT want to get in the way of any hippo, they are so dangerous.
did you know that Hippos kill more people every year than lions and tigers combined!!
an interesting scene of the natural landscape.
enjoy your day

This is a sharp, well managed (both color and light) photo that does justice to the raw beauty of the place. I am surprised, however, with all that water the grass is still yellow.
