Ganvie is a floating village of 30,000 people on the Laguna behind Cotonou. The journey to the shore take 45 minutes in pirogue and you are still 25 km away of Cotonou. Time has another meaning over there !
On the left of the picture, you can see a vegetal fish trap. On the right, you can see the "sail" of the pirogue. I was really impressed when the guide set up a sail from a bedsheet, 3 pieces of wood and 2 ropes. Welcome to Africa ! |

Hi Patrice
I'm so glad to see a new picture of Benin (the second in 3 days!), I find that there is too few pictures of that beautiful country posted on TE.
I haven't had the opportunity to go to Ganvie while I was there, such a shame, it looks really gorgeous.
Your picture is taken a bit too far away the village, so we can't see it clearly. But I guess your next post will be a picture of the inside of Ganvié!
The fabric in the up right corner of the pic is a bit disturbing, we don't know if it was meant to be on the picture or not. It looks very funny witht that small characters, so maybe it would have been interesting to include it in the frame fully.
Thanks for the sharing, I look forward to your next post!
Antho
