This is another view from the Slavery Museum you saw in my last post.
I don’t know what was the use of this big black pot with a long pipe attached.
I asked the person in charge of the museum, and she couldn’t explain either!
But it seems to have been an important piece on its own time, since it makes part of the museum’s items.
The National Slavery Museum is situated inside a chapel denominated "Big House Chapel" found on the "Morro da Cruz", on the road from Luanda to Kwanza.
Luanda served as the center of a large slave trade to Brazil from c.1550 to 1836. Slave trade was mostly with the Portuguese colony of Brazil; Brazilian ships were the most numerous in the ports of Luanda and Benguela
The slave trade was abolished in 1836. |
