Photographer’s Note

In Luanda, Angola, near the 4th February International Airport, i saw this person. One leg only, he kept walking with the spare leg swinging. The spare leg just look like him, even the shoes are the same.

Angola suffered from a civil war during the last 30 years, ending in 2002. The country structure is destroyed, landmines are spread throughout the country, the people are poor and you see many handicapped wandering around the city, asking for any help. It is a said reality. I am from Brazil, which is not a model country, we have poverty in excess. But i was shocked in Angola with something i had never saw.

Too bad for the blur. But I'm happy to see more posting about that wonderful country which deserves to be known for its kind people. That scene reminds me a lot of thing from there. Thanks for sharing and the note ! Até logo Cristiano !

muito bom fotojornalismo. Uma pena que o foco não esta perfeito e a fotografia esta um pouco torta. Gostaria de tirar uma parte do onibus, para de-centralizar o rapaz. :)

It is a sad photo. And tells so much of this country and this world. I had seen this before and came back. I guess this one hounted me. Dog is a nice detail. It does not care.

São feridas muito profundas, que vão demorar muito tempo a sarar! Mas Angola é um grande país e tem um potencial imenso, vai de CERTEZA ultrapasar esta fase!
A foto é muito elucidativa! E, na minha perspectiva, é mais importante o que diz do que quetões técnicas!

Hi Cristiano, like so many others without legs and hope in their lives, this individual still have some luxuries, he has a spare leg (although he is not using it) but I am sure there is thousands of war victims that would give a lot for a spare leg, thank you.
