Photographer’s Note
Although sand is making but a small part of the desert (see my earlier post) it is a very picturesque part and the most pictured one. My previous picture was taken early in the morning. This one is taken in the same
area just before sunset. The red filter makes it very contrasted.
One might regret the footprints as they seem to imply the place is not so desert. In fact the reverse is true: Footprints like the ones here may be monthes old ! Just think : When was the last rain ? or the last storm ? Something I experienced about the desert is its different time scale. People seeing my pictures of the desert often imagine one must feel very small in there. They are thinking of a spatial scale. To me the difference in time scale was the most impressive. I felt small indeed but it was the scale of my individual story that felt small not my six feet and a few inches :)

Spot light metering with hand meter set to ISO 64. That setting does not entirely compensate for the filter. Hence a global under-exposure of the film.

Bonjour Philippe,
Bon WE

Very nice shot, well done. Yhe contrasts in this B&W are really good and intense. And those curving lines on the sand give a very special effect.

Bonjour Philippe,
Très jolie vue du désert. Le N&B lui va très bien. Très bons contrastes. On dirait un paysage lunaire. Note très intéressante également.
Bien vu!
Quentin.

Hi Philippe, You have well captured the ripples on the sand. Nice to see the effect of the shadows in this picture. I think the contrast is a little too strong, a reason a guess of why you have used B&W for this looking like an old aged picture.
Nice Open view to make people feel small.

Philippe,
Bien amicalement

Bonjour Philippe,
Amazing dramatic result! The long shadows of sunset, the strong contrasts and the B&W option, make this a very intense image, with a very expressive sand surface.
And don't usually like heavy pp and in spite of some noise in the sky, I like very much this artistic result. Congratulations!
Merci,
Best regards,
Ricardo

Salut Philippe,

Bonjour Philippe,
Great graphical picture through the wrinkles in foreground, nevertheless a black and white image but with very nice contrasts, excellent composition too!
Have a nice sunday.
Amitiés,
John.

Bonsoir Philippe,

Wooow,
Excellent b/w and use of light here, Philippe!
ALl these shadows and curved lines - very graphic and dramatic at the same time.
I guess this one is a true success!

Hi Philippe.
The black and white works very well and the composition is good.
Perhaps there is a bite of disturbing noise, anyway a very interesting shot.

Hi Philippe.
100% agree with Coco about his comments. The B&W in this picture makes the picture different, unusual.
It's a pity the noise.

Hi Philippe - I am very curious about this place, the dunes look just like what I always thought the sahara would look like , the BW works nicely to bring out the shadows.

Hi Philippe. What an outstanding shot this is. My only suggestion would be to run a noise filter across the sky. But the light and shadows are both amazing. Awesome b/w Philippe!!

Bonjour Philippe,
Compliments.
Daniel.

An excellent note, Philippe; the photo is also very good, I like it very much, mainly because of the high contrast and also for the "lunar feeling". Very special light and shadows, good work!
