Ghardaia (625km south of Algier).
The town is build down a hill, on the Mzab river shore. The houses are terraced as a pyramid around the mosquee.
North-east the city is the palm grove, 7 km long, with more than 60 000 date palms. Under the the palms, fruits and vegetables are cultivated.

The Mozabits are Berbers installed in Mzab since the 12th century; Here, they founded a Pentapolis (five cities confederation) with the oasis of Beni Isguen, Bou Noura, El Atheuf, Melika, and Ghardaia, the main city.
From an ethnic point of view, in Algeria, they form the more traditional group, keeping alive their customs and architecture.

Merveilleuse et paisible image, telle une ancienne carte postale, du temps où l’on prenait le temps d’écrire à l’encre violette..
