Great timecapturer 2014-02-22 4:10

Hi Benny
with 3 relatives lost in Belgium in WWI one never found, and one buried in Flanders this place is so close to my heart, and leaves a lasting impression on you when you stand amongst these gravestones. A sensitive crop and a song choice that sums up the futility of it all, but a sacrifice I suppose that means we can lead the lives we do nowadays. Thought-provoking and humbling imagery!

Enjoy your weekend - B.

Default To timecapturer: sacrifice and futility

Thanks for your comment, Brian, I really appreciate the personal touch in it.

When looking back, we're drawn between the futility of it all and the sacrifice. An optimist believes that their sacrifice, in the end, has contributed to our present sense of freedom, to our present state of well-being. A pessimist will claim that their deaths have made no difference whatsoever, apart from the enormous grief and misery they brought to their loved-ones.

Though an enormous optimist at heart, when it comes to war, I tend to take the pessimist view.

B.
