Great tyro 2013-11-18 9:07

Hello Gunnar,

A very interesting but complex note about the divisions of your country at different times in history. I think I understand! Similar confusions, of course, exist here in Britain where changes to boundaries and names have been commonplace over the centuries.

This is a stunningly detailed and sharp picture, even when viewed at its massive size on "beta" TE! Yet your composition is excellent and pleasing, the light and the colours are lovely and your exposure is perfect. Fabulous technical quality as we have come to expect from you!

Excellent!

Kind Regards,

John.

Default To tyro: Thanks John

for your kind comments. I think that the point I really wanted to make, was that TrekEarth made a serious mistake when they chose the medieval subdivision of Sweden in provinces to be the default list instead of the modern subdivision into counties. After all, this subdivision was already established in 1634.

Stockholm is in fact the big “problem” for TE. Foreigners, who have visited Stockholm and want to add a photo on TE will not find any Stockholm County in the default list. Many use the first province in the list, which is “Ångermanland”, far away up in the north. The correct choice would be either “Uppland”, if the photo is taken in the northern part of the city, or “Södermanland”, if the photo is taken in the southern part. The border goes straight through the center of the Old Town and not many people know exactly where. After all, the historical provinces are much older than the city of Stockholm itself.

But I am afraid it is too late for TE to change now…

Kind regards
Gunnar
