Default That darn "useful" button!

Hi Les,

Well there's a funny thing. I must say that I have always found that if someone writes a note of "reasonable length", e.g. three or four lines, then when I click on the "useful" button it always seems to work. But if the author of the photograph has just written a line or a line and a half, it never works. I had thought that this was simply some way that the site was trying to encourage people to post reasonably long and detailed notes about their pictures but perhaps there's something else involved?

I'm not sure if it might be of some help, but I do know that there are one or two folk here {including Malgo (emka)} who still prefer to use the older "beta" version of TE - you can see your homepage here - I just wonder if that might prove to be a bit more reliable? Perhaps it's worth a try until this all gets sorted out?

Kind Regards,

John.

P.S. Now, I've just done a little research, though I'm not really sure if it's relevant. I've looked at your last few pictures on the "beta" version of TE. Now, with your picture of Sydney Harbour Bridge, you have written quite a long note and several people have marked your note as "useful". Also, if you look below your note for that picture, there is a "useful" and also a "neutral" button. But, if you look at your two most recent pictures from Tavistock, those buttons do not appear to exist at all. The buttons exist on the newer version of TE but they don't work.

So here's a little experiment you could do - why not try editing one or other (or both) of your last two pictures and add a few more lines to your note(s) to make it (them) longer. It would then be interesting to see if those buttons then appeared in your "beta" version of the pictures and if the buttons in the "newer" version would now work.

Might be worth a try and it might be a useful experiment to do to help any IT guys who might be looking into this.

Thank you for that suggestion tyro. I've sent it to our tech team, they might be able to work with that as well!

Hi everyone,

After Lucia and the tech team had checked the problem with the "Useful button", the tech team confirmed - as already guessed by John/Tyro - that a photo can't be marked as “useful” unless the note has a minimum of 200 characters. In fact this was set to incite the members to write sufficient notes.

Thank you all for your participation.
Kind regards,

Viviane
