Great macondo 2013-03-20 2:48

Hello Ivan.
I knew the name Vrbice and so I clicked on the thumbnail. I know it's hard to believe that a man with an English (Scottish) surname could have relatives in Ostrava, but my mother's cousin's son and his family live near Ostrava (Havirov, actually) and he worked in the mines himself. He is retired now and all the mines are closed, like this one. I don't know which mine he worked in. I've been to Ostrava numerous times since 1974, and although it is much cleaner today and the older buildings painted with pretty colours on the square, no doubt the effects of pollution will last a long time. In the 1970s I stayed with my aunt in the centre of Ostrava, and even there the dust and dirt from the mines could be felt in the air and seen on the buildings. I'm glad to see this photo of the monument to the period on TE; I have also looked at photos on your website. This one is very good quality, superbly clear and sharp, and an excellent exposure against the light coming through the windows. In fact, you've captured very well the subtle highlights on the surfaces of the machinery. Very well done, and so interesting from my point of view. I'm sorry, I don't speak Czech!
Regards,
Andrew

Hi Andrew!
Today's Ostrava is no longer such a "black" how about Ostrava once wrote. The mines are long closed, the factory near the center of the city as well. (Lower Vitkovice) The city is cleaner, greener. But today, we don't worry about the dust and ash but modern smog. I found a taste for historical industrial world. I like to capture the frames on the wonderful technical skill of our ancestors.
Of course, I love nature, animals and people around me. I like to take pictures. I photograph for 40 years.

Best Regards,
Ivan Rabas
