Hello Alan,

This is a monument I had not known of in Pretoria, but I'm happy to see. It's a tastefully carved monument, and I hope it will survive. In first viewing the thumbnail image of the oversize statue, my thoughts went to similar carvings in another part of the world. Set into their niches, there were a pair of colossal Buddha statues seen BEFORE and AFTER in Bamiyan, Afghanistan.

Their destroyed by the Taliban in the 2001 was a prelude to other acts of insanity to follow.

I had not considered it in the context of the Buddha statues, The ANC government has cut off funding to this memorial to the Afrikaners, and while I can understand it, it is nevertheless part of the country's history.
