Great SnapRJW 2012-03-31 2:02

Hello Corrado - The V-shaped overlap in the fjord and its reflection are compositionally strong and make a lovely framework for the solitary boat and buoy, both elements I love. A little detail has been lost in the sky and I would try to bring it back a little. Tricky exposure to manage though and a lovely shot. Warm regards rosemary

Smile To SnapRJW: Thanks Rosemary

Hello Rosemary,
thank you for the suggest about the sky over the fjord. Yes, you are right, the sky is burned and i have tried recover it from raw file (always shooting raw), but unfortunately I could only partially recover some gray tones, the colors have been lost completely.
I have taken another shot under exposed, but in this last are lost shadow detail.
The ideal would be three pictures in HDR, but unfortunately I had no tripod with me.
Probably, if I had had with me my DSLR that has a high dynamic range, the sky would not be burned but, at that moment, I have only the compact G10.

Thanks again Rosemary

Ciao

Corrado

Default Exposure

Hello Corrado - I know just how annoying it can be to try and deal with such a range of tones. I really battle with the problem sometimes and try and underexpose a little but as you say you have to try and get detail back in the shadows. A super shot nonetheless and sometimes I guess we have to be satisfied with the best we can achieve in the given circumstances. Have a lovely weekend Rosemary
