Hello Richard - Nice to see this. Thought you might like the verse that we used to sing when we visited this site as children

"As Long Compton thou canst not see King of England thou shalt not be. Rise up stick and stand still stone for King of England thou shalt be none; Thou and they men hoar stones shall be and I myself an eldern tree"

There is also a local story which tells that it is impossible to count number of King's men stones. A baker placed a loaf of bread at each stone counting as he went. When he collected them there were several missing and he was unable to tell how many stones there were.

Each time I go to the stones, I try to count them... no luck so far! Best regards Rosemary

Hi Rosemary, thank you for the super info. what a great poem.. The History of England is fascinating. In my research on the Rollrights I had read the aspect of the counting of stones. I must try it next time.. will let you know..

We recently held a TE meeting up in Cumbria . It was our first meeting with Ann Jackman, Tyro, Jaywalker, MJR and myself. We had Emka as our guest and possibly the reason why we started it. It was great fun and we all clicked.... Your name came up and I think it was Ann who mentioned that you may be coming over.. If you are keen , and should the others be available, we could plan our second meeting around your visit.. I know trips are often taken up visiting family and friends and you sometimes dont have much spare time.. have a think about it..

In the mean time I continue to enjoy your images of Namibia..
