Fine Tuning a New Lens

I was reading a forum at DP Review website. A user mentioned that new lenses must be fine tuned to the DSLR camera to get the best sharpness. I am not a member so I cannot write back.

What do they mean by "fine tuning a new lens to the DSLR camera?"

Fine tuning your lens to your camera is done when you buy a new lens so you may know exactly the focus point of your new lens. It is a very long explanation. You may just go to DP Review website (http://dpreview.com/) and search for "fine tuning lenses". The fine tuning is on the focus calibration of your lens but it does not work for zoom lenses.
