I own this camera (in fact my only camera) since 1997 and has worked without problems since then, travelling through zones of temps from -5 to +36°C, very humid, not so humid, high altitude, airport X-rays... and still works perfectly.
The through-the-lens light meter that it has is, I think, a very good one, but I use that readings just as a guide when I do night and low-light photography (which in fact I consider the most interesting type to do). For film I use Kodak E100VS. It has rich colours ——perfect for night shots. I recommend it. I have also tryed E100SW when the VS was not available with my photo supplier, though results are slightly less saturated. The settings: You need manual mode almost always for night shots. Sometimes the TTL meter gives readings that are, by experience, not the best ones. So I recomend to bracket. The bracketing mode of the 600si is not useful for bracketing a lot (it just do +1/2 and -1/2, which I consider too little), so you'll have to do it manually. There is no perfect setting for a night shot, just trial and error. Many of my photos in this site are night or low-lit, so you can see how this model works and have an idea of what settings to use. I consider it a very friendly camera, without to much complicated dials and buttons to press. I have no XI lenses but I think they are not so different than other types. By the way, you need a tripod... or something sturdy. It's a must for night shots. |

Thanks for the insight, I went and tested the camera today. Tomorrow I will post anything that turned out good.
Thanks |
