Great feather 2008-08-11 13:15

This must be a very original POV Bev. You have used the ruins of the Priory to frame St Mary's Church very well. The evening light coming in from the side is highlighting parts of the old stones beautifully.
Good advice about the crossings. Just last week a Spanish family got cut off and had to go into one of the towers. While waiting to be rescued they watched their car slowly going under water. Apparently they couldn't speak any English so had not understood about the tides.
Hope you had a successful village show. Did you win anything?

Default To feather: Lindisfarne - a romantic ruin

Many thanks for your warm feedback, Kath.
We took this shot latish in the afternoon, which in October would have been just before sunset.

As regards the show, I will copy and paste my notes from a lily that I posted on TL:

This lily looks bright and cheerful but it is here, this morning, to lift the spirits of myself and the people of Trawden.

Let me explain.
For the last year, and very intensely for the last few weeks, people had been working very hard to produce our local Agricultural Show. The marquees had all been erected, the flags and markers established, the signs erected, the forms filled, the certificates written, the baking done, the flowers arranged .....

But throughout the week it has been raining. Then, yesterday, it was torrential all day. Delivery wagons found it increasingly difficult to access the ground and ultimately had to be removed by being towed off by a tractor.

Late last night, with the forecast of more rain, it was decided to cancel the show.

Last year the show was visited by similar weather conditions and incurred severe financial losses. Sadly, it is unlikely that the committee will have funds to continue ...

So, I think that wil be the last show unless some rich person injects some cash, which is highly unlikely!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

That is sad to hear. So many people work so hard for little reward to get these events off the ground, only to have hopes dashed by the vagaries of the British weather. You must have had more rain than we had. Saturday was miserable and Sunday was showers and sun. Fingers crossed for that rich person.
Take care
Chin up
