Great Emile 2007-07-23 20:47

Hola David.
Very interesting shot with the impressive glacier, very well captured. Nice blue and white color contrast plus a very good reflection. Your POV is good, great composition, your note very instructive.
I use Photoshop, how do you sharpened only one part of the picture???
Well done. TFS.
Best regards.

Default To Emile: Sharpening parts of picture

Hi Emile,

You can select different parts of a picture to sharpen using layers (and then use different sharpening techniques on those parts for the best result) but I have to confess that I used a very quick and crude short-cut to exclude the sky in this one (please don't tell anyone!). I simply selected the sky with the magic wand tool, selected inverse, and then applied USM. That worked on this because of the very strong contrast between the sky and the ice, but wouldn't work on images without such a strong contrast because the edge of the area selected by the magic wand tool would leave an noticeable outline on the image.

Cheers . . . David
