Hi Steve,
It has been long since the last time I logged on to trekearth.com. I am in Maryland this week on a business travel and I am sending this message during a meeting break. I arrived DC area on Monday, 4/16. As soon as I arrived, I heard VT massacre news, I thought about all Hokies, and I thought about you.
In our meeting, a colleague gave presentation was wearing a button in VT color in memory of the victims at VT yesterday. He told me that he was in a memorial event back to VT the day before. I’d like to let you know that all Americans, as well as all Hokies are shocked by this terrible incidence. I hope we all will be recovered from the sorrow, the shock and the sadness.
Thank you for posting this photo here in showing us the beautiful campus and the excellent education provided from this famous school. This provide us an opportunity to express our sad felling in this forum.
I am working more than 10 hours a day in these few days during my stay in DC area. I did not find any chance to contact you, although I have been thinking about the possibility all the time. I am keeping absence from trekearth.com because I have not been able to make a meaningful contribution due to my time limit. I am still trying to find time to come back in a near future.
I am touched by a quote of VT professor Nikki Giovanni from www.vt.com: "We will continue to invent the future through our blood and tears and through all our sadness ... We are the Hokies ..."
Best wishes and keep in touch.
Wes

It sure is good to hear from you again. It's a shame it’s under this sad situation. I'm still having a hard time believing it actually happened no matter how much of the news I watch. The more I watch the more I realized this man was a most disturbed psychopath intent on killing as many people as he could. I also feel sorry for the students who now have to have this cloud hanging over the rest of there college experience. Blacksburg has always been one of the safest places in the world and for this to happen just doesn’t register with me. It turns out that a friend of mine who lives in Centreville can see this the killer's parents house from his back deck. Of course I used the same post office many times when I was there that he mailed the package to NBC from. I was alarmed by some of the videos and pictures mostly because of the nightmares that might create for the victim's families and the 15 people who survived. I've become a fan of Nikki Giovanni with her poem from the memorial they had on Tuesday. I never had any English classes from her since my major only required two English classes which were general classes. The massive outpouring has helped made me feel a little better. Today was the day where everyone was supposed to wear maroon and orange and I work with huge Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, and Alabama fans who always give a me tons of grief when VT looses a game in football but today they all had VT shirts on today which put a big smile on my face! Take care and hopefully I can see you on TE again this summer, Steve |
