Default digital camera ailing

The lense on my digital camera is having problems extending and retracting. According to Olympus' web site, minimum repair cost is $213. :(
It's a 2.1MP camera -- Camedia C2000. Probably no point in getting it fixed, huh? Has anybody ever tried opening one up themselves?

I'd definitely recommend putting the $213 toward the new, better ....

The C2000 might make a good backup camera for the road.

(Personally, I'd crack the case. Especially if it's unusable as is.)

One more thing...

I'd visit the Oly Talk forum at dpreview, search - then ask, if anyone has healed their own Cx0x0 lens.
