Default GIMP Software

Is anybody aware of a site other than www.gimp.org where I may be able to download the software? I have been unable to access the official GIMP site for a couple of days now.

It's up for me as I write this. You may have a problem on your end. There are mirror sites all over the world. You didn't specify for what OS and what format (rpm, deb, tgz, etc) you want it in.

If all else fails, Knoppix includes gimp, and is at http://torrent.unix-ag.uni-kl.de:6969/ . You will need a copy of bit torrent however.

The GIMP site is back up now and I have just downloaded the latest version to have a look. I tried 3 different machines, in different locations over a period of 2 days and couldn't access the site so my guess is that there was a problem at their end which has now been resolved.

FYI, I like 2 better than 1.2. On the same machine, 2.x is faster and the new text handling is much nicer, although different. Some things have been re-arranged so be careful of that. For instance, Image -> Colors menu is now under Layers -> Colors.

Thanks for the information Robert. I haven't used 1.2 so won't have the re-learning issue between releases. It looks as if I will have enough to do just learning :-)
