Default for Vivianne

I gave a number of cropping schemes a try, but in the end I came back to this full field view. I kinda like not just seeing the road ahead of me, but also the makeup of the road.

This brings to mind all of these discussions about points/smileys/critiques/etc. There have been lots of discussions about pictures, but what about pictures in support of travelogues? As in the case of this picture, I think for the simple sake of a picture there's a lot that could have been done, but would this accurately tell us about that part of the world?... Had I cloned out the pipeline, this would have made a more attractive image, but would the observer learned from this?

I'm not being critical of your critique, to the contrary, I find it helpful, because it reinforces what I already thought. But with all the debate about only posting our best shots, which I think this is for my travelogue, but does lack artistic merit.

Thanks, and forgive my use of this opportunity to air a question that's been floating around in my head.

Bonjour Ned,

Thank you a lot for reacting to my comment.
Of course I was only wondering how it would have been after cropping the lower part of the road. And you may be right!
Also I agree with you that an "Artistic point of view" may not change or transform the reality. You made a very nice shot of a landscape that I never saw before, it's wonderfull and just what TE is meant to be... Merci!

And as I'm the last one worrying about points, I'll give you an extra smiley: :o)))

Default For Ned..

I posted my critique before I saw this discussion.

A couple of things.

I believe that I started the 'best shots' "issue". What I meant, but didn't clearly say, is that we should encourage people to do the best job possible in posting, to work their image into the best possible condition prior to posting.

I don't think cloning out the pipeline would have added to the attractiveness of the picture. It would have reduced the interest. I do think that cropping off the bottom of the frame does yield an image that has more impact. But that's a personal feeling. YMMV.

Default New Theme with your photo...

Bonjour Ned,

I've just made a new "Roads to Nowhere - Theme" and added this one. I hope you don't mind...
