Great image with a nice bit of colour popping to emphasise the central subject. A very moving note too.
Twenty four years ago on the 4th July - ironically Independence Day for some - I lost my best friend to drugs. He took his own life rather than fight the drug which is all consuming as the poem illustrates very well. I read that poem and it brought tears to my eyes. The impact of drugs is felt by us all in many ways and watching someone destroy themselves through drugs engenders the most profound feeling of powerlessness just as they are powerless to fight it.
Very moving image Noel.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your comments on the drug memorial image, and I am sorry to have heard of your loss. I was glad to hear that the poem had an impact on you too, as I felt the same when I read it in the context of the thread where I seen it. Even though i lived in area that was ravished by drugs as I grew up, I was lucky not to have ever lost anybody to it. I remember as a child the protests that are mentioned in the photo note, it seems like a strange time. All the best from Ireland Noel |
