how do you work on pics captured using video camera?

i've been capturing views using my only device: video camera. what i've found that whenever i took, the pics won't be sharp. i've tried to mend them using GIMP, but still can't work. any suggestions?

Save your troubles and just get a cheap digital camera

WHY?! A nice 5 megapixel p&s will not cost you very much. Why not get one? That way you can learn about photography. This Im afraid is not photography.
