Great tyro 2012-07-28 6:27

Hello Brian,

The more I see of your pictures from Santorini, and especially from Oia, the more I want to visit this lovely place.

Your choice of viewpoints in your Greek pictures really is inspiring. Looking at them, they don't always fit in with the revered "rule of thirds" which so many of us seem to be slave to, but yet they are very pleasing to the eye. This one is no exception.

The colours here are excellent - perhaps just a tad oversaturated for the taste of some - but the most impressive thing technically and from my point of view is that the whites are white and not pale grey - not an easy achievement in this sort of situation.

Fabulous!

Kind Regards,

John.

P.S. You know something? You have given us many, many gorgeous pictures from here of the wonderful archiecture and scenery. What I'd really love to see would be some pictures of life here - you know the sorts of things - old guys sitting outside their shops puffing their pipes and drinking ouzo, guys fettling boats, women in local costume and so on. Do you have any of those? :o)

Default To tyro: Life In Greece

Hi John

sorry for the delay in responding to this critique. My broadband connection has been very intermittent and a bit frustrating these last few days.

Unfortunately Oia is such a tourist orientated place you do not see that many traditional or typical Greek people. I travelled well off the beaten track on my visit, and did get a few shots of some characters, but they are not that good so have thought twice about posting any on here.

In one off the beaten track place in Santorini, I was set upon by two angry dogs which was a bit scary. Did not point the camera at them as I had a dog go for me on my home town beach because I was pointing the camera towards it. Luckily the owner was around to prevent it jumping me.

On my other trips to Greece I have tried to get a few more candid shots, but as you know I do tend to go for views without any humans at all. I can wait for hours sometimes to get a shot without anybody in it! Saddo! yes I know!!

Thanks once again for your interest and wonderful comments.

Brian.
