Great macjake 2012-04-18 10:22

Hi John
lots of useful information there in your note.
I've enjoyed reading it, and i actually learned a thing or two!
it makes me wonder though....how many blow-ups did these trains have...steam, heat, pressure, pressure and more pressure...hmmm...
I find myself having a wandering eye, so much to view here, i like it.
PS - my latest post of the building in Sann Francisco, you commented that you liked the HDR work on it...its not hdr! :) None of my photo's on my trips to San Fran, New York, Eastern Canada or Las Vegas are HDR, only some of my Vancouver one's.
But that will change as i'm traveling to Poland and Czech Republic in July/Aug this year.
I'll be doing regular and hdr shots depending on the circumstances.
Thanks!
Craig

Default To macjake: HDR and Bombs..............

Hi Craig,

Thank you for your reply. Silly me, I thought that picture of yours was an HDR one - which just goes to show how expert you are at HDR work because I can rarely actually tell whether you've done it or not - the true sign of expertise.

Yes, of course, you're absolutely right about steam engines, whether they be in locomotives, factories or ships. A pressurised steam boiler is essentially a huge bomb just waiting to explode if something goes wrong. That is why, even for locomotives like this one, there are very stringent tests that have to be done on a regular basis to make sure that the boiler has no weaknesses or cracks and that all safety pressure release valves are set and working properly. There are records of a fair few catastrophic boiler explosions - if you're not convinced, read this article - VERY scary!

I'll look forward to seeing your pictures from Poland and the Czech Republic later. Are you going to meet Malgorzata (emka) in Poland or Romana (romanaa) in C.R.?

Cheers,

John.

Default TE meeting

Hey John
as a matter of fact yes.
I've already been in frequent contact with Malgo, we're going to meet up initially in Warsaw, and lucky enough Serghei (serp2000) will be in Warsaw the same dates! So it will be all of us, plus my girlfriend and I think His wife.

At the end of our trip, we need to come back to Warsaw to catch our plane, and Malgo said we can spend that last night at her house.

it should be fun!!
see you around
