The photo itself is extraordinary as a feat of photojournalism. Unhappily, as an Ataturkist and strong secularist who has lived in the United States for five decades, I find it disturbing. Warm regards,

Thanks, Bulent, for your comment. My wife and I were in Turkey for three weeks during this past Ramazan celebration. This was the only fully covered woman we saw, although we spent only four days in Istabul and the rest on the coast in Modrogan.
