Default Northern California Treks

TrekEarth Treks - Northern California

TrekEarth is all about sharing images from the world around us. It's also about helping less experienced members enhance their expertise. With this in mind, I'm proposing to arrange some 'field workshops' in Northern California. I've been running around this area for the last few years searching for good photography locations, and I'm happy to pass on this knowledge to other members in the area.

These 'Treks' will be mostly about introducing you to locations and maybe some techniques, and encouraging you to try out some new approaches to photography. Initially, they will last no longer than a day including time to travel to locations. The only restriction will be on the number of participants. Initially I'll be limiting it to ten members.

The inaugural Trek will take place in the San Francisco/Pacific Coast area. The location is yet to be finalized, but my initial ideas are either Point Reyes to the north or Point Lobos/Big Sur to the south. If possible, I'd like to arrange something before the holidays - most likely on a weekend.

If you are interested in spending a few hours of your time with some fellow members, and getting some great photos out of it, please reply to this message.

More information to follow.

Ron.

Sounds great. I'd be interested in going on one of these excursions, thanks!

I'm interested too. I live in Berkeley, and could attend a group outing. I would be fun to meet other TE people!

Thanks to Ron for organizing this outing to Pt. Lobos and Garrapata. The weather was great and there were plenty of photo opportunities. I felt archaic with my film-based Canon A2 but I hope to have the film developed soon and post some shots. Thanks again Ron!

Make sure you put a theme together of the big day and post a notice in here, otherwise I might miss it. Sounds great.

I only got one photo that I'm really happy with (China Cove), but I did try out a lot of variations to get that one. I really like the one Adam got of the waves. Sorry if a theme doesn't come out of this... I do think that we both learnt something about photography though.

Cheers,

Ron.

I saw both those photos, and yes it is interesting to see how different people interpret the same place. Maybe you would like to come over and do a trek in yorkshire :p

Hi Tim,

I agree, that's the interesting part for me. Unfortunately only Adam and I were able to go on this trek, but it was worthwhile.

I don't know if I mentioned this anywhere, but I'm originally from Northern Ireland, and I actually have a photo from Yorkshire here.
Admittedly, it was taken a while back on an Easter camping trip. I can still remember setting up our tents in a field behind a farmhouse - everyone trying to shelter from the wind and snow...

Sadly it's pretty much sunshine 350 days of the year now ;) For a while, I kept getting caught out and getting sunburn in December, but I think I'm used to it now.

Cheers,

Ron.
