the Dark Side

Hi Gyorgy

I agree about the Dark Side, and often deliberately under-expose by 1/2 stop. But exposure and saturation aren't the same thing!

Hi Boa

I post images at about 920 px wide - best I've found for display purposes on TE and Beta TE (where the images can be seen larger); file size is generally around 1- 1.5 mb. Although we're...

site crashing

Hi tecchies

It seems from John's report that this is not a problem unique to me. For the record, I'm running Mozilla Firefox on Windows 7. Something needs to be done! N.B. I reported this a...

Site crashing

Hi tecchies

I don't know if this problem is unique to me, but it doesn't happen on other sites, so I'm guessing it's a problem at server or source. The site works fine for the first few minutes;...

light

Thanks for the explanation. I was fooled into thinking that it was sunlight by the fact that it is very directional (unlike most street lighting), and because I think you must have white-balanced...

To Tigerlily: game

Hello Jasmine

I'm glad you had so much fun with the collage! But as I'm sure you know, your little game is all your own: I had no such clever message to impart, just realised that I had several...

To williewhistler: PP

Hi Les

No, not Silver Efex, though I do use it sometimes. This just uses a careful control of tones, using Ansel Adams' classic "zone system" applied to a digital file (easy when, in Levels,...

Yep certainly can. So what's going on? And why aren't the rest of us affected apparently? I'm at a loss.

To CLODO: Sunshine

Hi Claude

Yes: even sunshine in Buxton. If you look carefully in the background of that shot, you will see your torso!

white veil

Hi Magaly

I think you must be right about the differences between screens. I made sure the darkest tones remained black, so that shouldn't be the case, and it looks fine on my screen.

Hi Trevor

Thanks for the explanation. And I did look through your links, as Adam Burton is still in my favourites. Maybe we can chat once in a while, as I'll still look out for your postings.

Getting carried away

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. I always try to maintain a balance between "reality" and Photoshop, and hope that any PP I do is pretty much invisible. But I'm sure I often fail!

Hello Teccies

I'm having problems uploading large versions of panoramas that I've posted. In fact I've never succeeded, despite many tries! The original posts conform to the requirements...

Hi Satya

Glad you didn't mind the workshop! But I don't know what you mean about slightly limiting the tonal range. By forcing the highlights to be white (and checking the darkest tones too)...

Well spotted John. I didn't check, and assumed I had used the 24 - 70. Thanks for pointing out the error. There’s a slight snobbishness among street photographers about shooting with a longer lens...

Tonal range

Hi Trevor

I'm absolutely with you on contrast and getting a wide tonal range, especially in B/W. I hope I'm not in the bland camp! As ever, it's all a question of degree. I do much the same as...
