Re: TrekEarth T-Shirts Now Available

I've got my TE t-shirt, and I love it--Thanks Adam! I have already had a passer by call out "Hey! TrekEarth!" upon seeing me walking down the street in the shirt. The shirts look great. I recommend...

Re: Confrontation

Christina-- Thank you for your extensive (and flattering) comments on my protest series. In shooting and editing my photos from the event, I wanted to show the complete picture story--from hard-core...

Re: Confrontation

I've just posted my last in this series. I hope you like it. I would be interested in general comments on this series as a whole picture story.

Sun / Moon

snuggleaphagus - The "sun" is actually the Moon. If it was the sun, this building would probably be a black, back-lit silhouette.

I think the moon makes a nice element in the frame, but I just...

Centering Subject

Because the main subject itself is so asymmetrical, I felt comfortable centering it in the frame without it having too much of that centered "mug shot" look. Other opinions?

Re: Seeing things differently now

This weekend I have been working on some old images that I had originally photoshop'd with my old CRT monitor. Looking at them now, it is clear that my new LCD has better resolution of shadow detail,...

Re: Calibrated monitor

After receiving several recommendations for it, I went with the GretagMacbeth Eye-One Display for monitor calibration on my new Samsung LCD. However, can't compare to my CRT, which was calibrated...

Gaffer Tape/Monitor Hood

Do you know what gaffer tape is? Gaffer tape does not leave residue. That's why I use and recommend it (as opposed to something like duct tape).

Note that I am not taping all the panels to the...

Re: Seeing things differently now

I had been working with a SEVEN-year-old Iiyama monitor until last week. I just upgraded to a Samsung 191t 19" LCD (after reading many photographer recommendations). It is great. Of course, any...

Width of Crescent -- Long Exposure

Ronners-- The crescent was indeed thin that night (2nd day past New Moon). However, my long exposure captured the motion of the moon, which was actually moving across the sky quite fast. Believe it...

Exposure Time

Greg--Interesting method for guessing exposure. Yes, 10 seconds sounds about right.

The sky was about a 20-25sec exposure, but since the buildings comprised so much of the skyline, I exposed for...

Re: Northern California Treks

I'm interested too. I live in Berkeley, and could attend a group outing. I would be fun to meet other TE people!

"specks"

All the "specks" in the frame are other kites or lines.

re: candids w/ wide angle

Ronners-- It's true that a wideangle can be a good tool for candids. A 20mm or wider lens can be pointed away from a subject, but still include him/her suruptitiously. Even a 24mm or 28mm can be...

Re: Too many photo's here?

I think that "too much of a good thing" is not a problem that needs to be "fixed". Most popular websites were complex and heavily trafficked before we joined. Many here on TE were lucky enough to...

To Darren, Re: Panning Blur

Thanks for your input. FYI, I was at the lowest ISO on my camera. I wasn't at the highest aperature, but f/16 got me 1/40 or 1/50. I wouldn't have wanted to go down to 1/8 or 1/15, since I didn't...

Photos of Cute Kids

I want to make a general comment on the recent spate of "cute kid" photos. Like flower photos (which have been discussed here ad nauseum), they have a universal appeal. However, like flowers, they...

Re: Speed, stars and B&W

The moon appears as bright as anything you would see in the daytime, so it should be no suprise that a long (over) exposure will blow out the moon just like anything else you over expose. In general,...

Re: Posing

Mitch, I can see where you are coming from. But understand that any "sneaky" aspect to the photo was just to assure that I didn't disturb the spontaneous scene as I capture it. I wasn't trying to do...

Re: Posing

Thanks for your comment, Mitch. I have to say that I wouldn't have preferred a posed shot. My goal was to get a spontaneous moment, which I think I achieved. Asking japanese kids to pose has a way of...

Re: For those who have pricey Cameras !

I do paid professional work as a photographer, so my "pricey camera" is used for work. However, I use it extensively for unpaid personal projects as well, and for day-to-day shooting. So it's for...

Re: A different perspective

Could you explain further? If the "pictures of the day" page includes all new photos for the first 24 hrs, then it's effectively just a new "Page 1", and the same image volume dilemma applies.
