My take...

I quit posting on TE because of the scarcity of meaningful critiques. (And I wrote a lot of critiques, tossed no sugar plums.)

Now TE has a new owner. Perhaps a change might be possible.

Adam...

Re: Which language?

I follow you....

Imagine.

One chooses a country name from a dropdown (dialed down by letters entered). I want to post a picture from Nepal so I type 'N' and all the N-countries appear. I...

Which language?

"1) Decide which language we should use for the names of cities: English or the local language (e.g. "Antwerp" or "Antwerpen")."

Establish a place name database that cannot be amended by ordinary...

Re: Nikon DSLRs have very limited life in Bangladesh??

I find that advice very, well ..., questionable.

Were there a significant problem with "plastic consumer" cameras in humid conditions then where are all the reports of failure from Florida,...

As I recall Yellowstone...

You won't be able to walk back far enough to fill the screen with some shots such as Old Faithful going off so you'll need a wide angle.

You won't, or at least you won't want to, walk up close to...

"Learning about the world through photography"

If the purpose of this site is learning about the world through photography then removing ones photos diminishes the site.

I use the site to obtain a preview of places that I'm thinking of...

Re: Lens or situation??

From the mid '60s to early '80s I took a number of long trips (Mexico, Canada, lots of the US, India, France) with only a 50mm lens. When I look at those pictures it shows.

There's the cathedral...

Re: Lens or situation??

On my last trip I took a 10-17, an 18-55, and a 50-200 with a 1.5x dSLR (K100D).

After a couple of days I quit carrying the 10-17, I just wasn't using it for the type of shooting that I was doing....

Your workshop

First, thanks for the attention to my photo, but I have to say that I really dislike your version.

It is nothing like the scene that I observed and photographed. Brightening the image this much...

Re: Value of Feedback

You could use a site that allows the posting photographer to discuss the photograph with other members.

(Yes, you can start a discussion on another part of this site, but that doesn't work very...

To ronners: Orange and blue.

Late in the day. Rust + 'the golden hour' working together. (Don't think I've got the skills to fake it.)

I'm not seeing what you're seeing with 'shallow DOF'. Do you mean the dark area to the...

To dvlazar: Traveling to Bangladesh...

I've been twice, once three years ago for about two weeks and this winter for about three weeks.

Bangladesh can offer some good shooting, but can also be frustrating. You won't find the...

The women considered this decoration to be very beautiful.

You think all the folks getting tattooed these days are doing so just so they can suffer physically and mentally?

(Personally I think...

Frame? Sometimes....

Some images have white/very light areas along the edges. Adding a "pixel frame" creates a boundary for the image and keeps it from bleeding onto the background.

But folks should realize that the...

Generalizing from SEA...

Theft isn't as likely as carelessness when it comes to loosing gear.

I've traveled with someone who left cameras on the bus - twice.

I've traveled with people who left their bags hanging on...

""What TE isn't about is having to look at pictures from someone's drunken night out in the clubs. ;o)"

I wouldn't be so sure about that Bob. The Friday night drinking session is an integral part...

To ronners: See your point...

I do tend to get caught up in the smaller details of places that I visit.

And I'm looking for significant/critical feedback of those shots that I take while traveling.

I can see why this...

Re: TE is All About Points and Stars ?

It's about a lot of things.

Some people are interested in collecting points, some people aren't.

Some people are interested in critical feedback, some people aren't.

What TE isn't about is...

To gpsony: Adjusting contrast...

Thanks for the feedback.

"Wonder if the contrast could be adjusted."

Which way? Don't think I could boost it anymore as some areas are already right at (or over?) the point of being blown out.

To ronners: Thanks...

My critical take on this shot is that there is no strong main subject. What is in the dominate position (and most sharply focused) is the foremost table of dishes. The lack of a strong main subject...

To scalerman: Softness...

At 80mm at 1/125 and IS it's not likely to be movement. Either camera or subject.

I agree that the image is a bit soft. I think it's the f4.5. I had been shooting in dim ambient light deeper...

Re: What would you do? / Que feriez vous?

My typical reply is that I don't give my photos away for free, but sell them.

My standard fee for web use is three good deeds. I leave it up to the purchaser to find and complete the tasks. ...

We were "there" with your first post.

I think you owe Adrian an apology. You were way, way off base. IMHO.
