How often do people use the location links to look at the range of images coming from a particular city, town or region - I always find it fascinating to look down the histories of posts in relation to locations and see the different approaches and styles to the place as a whole and to the same specific buildings or scenes.......I think one can get a better sense of the varying qualities of image making here on TE too....uuuum! I'm getting ideas for group exhibitions and other things!!

Perhaps it is becoming a more interesting way for me to access the site at the moment.......also of great use in planning travel to new places.......I guess a lot of members use these links to scout places to go and for other info and contacts.

Bonjour Kev,

I'm glad with such a thread as I use to name myself "a location-admin!" :o)))
In fact I realize I use the location links quite often.

Looking to the place I have lived or known when I was young... Nostalgia! ;o)
Looking for places which our friend have visited.
Looking for places we've gone in he past and where we certainly will go again - especially Norway & Sweden.
Looking for places I would like to visit in the near future - for now Scotland as we are making plans for next June - Mull? Kintyre? Which region would you recomand?
Looking for places I dream to go once - Canada, Japan & New-Zealand.

So now I know WHY I want to get precise, proper and ordonned lists of locations... :o)))

I don't use the locations link because I was unaware of its existence. I still don't know where to find it. Can you enlighten me??

I enjoy browsing through the different locations. Sometimes it's almost like going on a small vacation. Depending on which country or area I'm interested in I'll actually spend a lot of time just browising through that region while completely disregarding the "regular" gallery.

Hi Kev! I use it very often. Specially when I discover a good photo from a special place I discover or before I go on a particular trip. Being a site about places (not photography... ;) ) I find that feature one of the best in TE.
Stay safe, l.

Hi Keith - it's just the links to particular places e.g. Paris and you get all of the pictures of everyone from Paris - or a region e.g. Normandy - and ypu get all the pics of normandy - that's all i meant.

Hi Kev,
lately I don't use these (links) much as I realised every time I do it, I end up browsing for hours and never finish what I'd actually started doing on th ecomputer in the first place.
But, yes - it's extremely useful and sometimes I do it, but I really have to set/limit my time in advance!
;-D

... oh, and I forgot to mention one important thing:
It drives me absolutely mental when someone's ignorant and doesn't put any effort in marking the location correctly.

Hi Kev,

I originally found TrekEarth when using Google to do travel research. Little did I know TE would lead to this brutal obsession with photography :) I still use it for planning but I also sometimes look at locations with an eye toward seeing what I might do differently or to identify concepts of images that I think I might improve upon. I'm hoping that eventually TE will tie into Google maps so we might improve our specificity. I am often interested in finding location prospects within a set driving (or sometimes walking) distance from a location we plan to stay. How cool would it be to be able to search on the geocoordinate of the place you'll be staying and see all images on TE taken within say a mile, two miles, 20 miles, etc?

Cheers!

Bob,
http://www.flickr.com/map/
can properly do what you want, exploring a small area,
typ Swansea in it f.i. and click on the red dots where photos were taken,
maybe you'll find even some posted on TE too :)

Hi Henk,

I do use that feature on Flickr as well as ePhotozine but some part of me wants TE to take the lead. I keep telling people that if I could only have the TE community on a site with the features of ePhotozine I'd have the perfect place to spedn way too much of my time :)

Cheers!

Very often, actually!

I do have bookmarks for Switzerland and Canton Neuchâtel in FF3... but I often choose at random, or from someone's profile, from a critique I read, and I end up in Lebanon when I was looking at images taken in Saas-Fee, if you follow my meaning.

And yes, I do appreciate your comment on the varying qualities of image making. Some people do not only take vastly improvable images, but are not able to choose the location correctly on top of it... or to spell it without a minimum of two typos...

Thanks for this opinion!

I've just started really. I'm off to Dorset this weekend and have been looking here for places to photograph along the Jurrasic Coast. I also use Google Earth to get an idea of the location of some shots. Thats the great thing about TREKEARTH. The only bad thing is now I have certain pictures in my mind and I need to try hard NOT to re-create the.
