Brazil tips

Hi fellows,

I'm planning a 18 day travel in Brazil in March 2005. My first idea is to stay in Rio and Salvador with a tour in the Minais Gerais. I would like to see more Nature but I absolutely don't want to spend days in buses.

Any idea for that ? Specific locations ? Means of transportation ? What are the weather conditions in the Nordeste ? What is the average budget per day for a car rental ?

for Rio, I am sure Bruno Camolez (kmolz) will be glad to help you.

In Minas Gerais, i strongly recommend you to visit "Lavras Novas", http://www.lavrasnovas.com.br/ - 113 km from Belo Horizonte, where, as far as I know, there are ecotouristic trekkings available.
I recommend you to travel among capitals (Salvador, Rio, Belo Horizonte) by plane, and, once there, rent a car (~US$ 50.00/day).
Temperatures will not be below +25C.

Well, I went further in the planification of the trip.

At this stage, I feel I will stay few days in Rio at the beginning and the end of the trip so that I can introduce what i know of that wonderful city to my wife. Then, I plan to rent a car to visit few cities in the Minas Gerais (Ouro Preto for sure) along the "Caminho de Oro". Then, I plan to go to Salvador for a week roughly.

I didn't decided yet the details of the visit around Rio and Salvador; any tip for me ?

Olá Steven, Bruno, desculpem pela demora na resposta :)
Estou pensando em tirar uns dias de férias agora em março e adoraria me juntar a vocês tanto no Rio quanto em Minas para a visita a Ouro Preto e Caldas Novas, dois lugares belíssimos. Tenho amigos em Belo Horizonte (capital de Minas Gerais) e vou consultá-los a respeito de hotéis e reservas. Fui para lá em 2001 e fizemos o "circuito das cidades históricas" de carro e foi realmente incrível... Se conheço bem meu amigo e sua esposa, eles não hesitarão em serem nossos cicerones por lá.
Agora é acertar datas e sonhar :))
(Confesso que estou precisando de sossego!
